Mignonnette Mania!!!

The celebrated French children’s magazine, La Poupee Modele, was published from 1863 to 1925.  Examining issues of the magazine establishes that the doll which had been most successful with young readers was the pocket doll, first appearing in August 1878 and disappearing in December 1917.  In February 1880, this doll was baptized Mignonnette.  This name became the generic term to designate all articulated dolls of a size less than the 20cm, (7.87 inches) and especially those all-bisques which already had been stylish toward the end of the 1870’s.  But, we must credit La Poupee Modele for their consecration and propagation.
